Social Networking

The biggest problem with social networking sites is they request information about you!  As you sign up, you must make several decisions with regards to your “personal information.”  So here is a list of items things you can change or modify when you sign up.

  1. Give your parents/guardians access to your login information.

  2. Make your page/information private, that means, you must give out invitations to people you wish to have access to your information.

  3. Blur your pictures or create an AVATAR.  There are many free online programs to do this.

  4. Keep your email/user name generic.  Don’t use soccergirl17.

  5. Never post information you would not share with your mom, dad, guardian, employer, priest, or rabbi.  If you post it once, it may be available forever.  Several employers now use  information from online social sites to help them hire employees.  This trend is expected to increase.

  6. Be careful of what your friends say!

What’s wrong is that people ask for infomation from little kids and kids our age, and most of the time they are unaware of that what they are saying is wrong.

i agree that it is a problem that they request information from you, but i think the bigger issue after that is that ANYONE can join a website like facebook, and anyone can find out about you, impersonate you, or your friend, children right now are in more danger from online preditors than ever before, and yet here we are everytime they press LOG IN
