I use this video in parts. The 5th – 8th grades can watch the whole video. 2-4th Grades, I only show the first half to show the children what not to do.

We watch the 1st half and then we watch it a second time to pick out what information the child is sharing that is inappropriate. Hope that helps.

Try it now, I put in a yellow rollover background to highlight the blue text. Digital Footprint, may be a new post. I’ll have to think about how to add this in… I think it warrents an entire page on it’s own.

Jon – NICE WORK! I am just beginning to look through the links and content, and may have a few things to add. I registered, thinking I could add a comment/resource to the “Posting” article. Have you seen safeshare.tv? It “masks” YouTube content so comments are not visible and you can view the videos on a clean page.

CIPA Compliance

If we have a program in place and it follows the guidelines see page 5 and 6 of implementing CIPA guidelines at http://vtisp.org/?page_id=88 . We can do this without having to pay a third party agency. I would defer to Peter Drescher to confirm. Another reason to have this website I also included a link to a certificate of certification.

P.S. An LEA is the Local Education Association and the SEA is the State Education Association.

- An LEA seeking Ed Tech funds must certify to its SEA that one of the following conditions exists –
- Every “applicable school” has complied with the CIPA requirements
- Not all “applicable schools” have yet complied with the requirements. However, the LEA has received a one-year waiver from the U.S. Secretary of Education under section 2441(b)(2)(C) of the ESEA for those applicable schools not yet in compliance.
- The CIPA requirements in the ESEA do not apply because no funds made available under the program are being used to purchase computers to access the Internet, or to pay for direct costs associated with accessing the Internet, for elementary and secondary schools that do not receive e-rate services under the Communications Act of 1934, as amended.

What’s wrong is that people ask for infomation from little kids and kids our age, and most of the time they are unaware of that what they are saying is wrong.

I agree that you should not give out your personal information to the people that you don’t know. You should not give out your name or your phone number and etc. Because you have no idea what will happen after that.

Copyright is also an issue on websites like youtube, people posting their own versions of a certain popular song could get them in BIG trouble, because of the copyright on that song. We should all be careful when we are posting, if we do. Then there’s the issue of getting songs for free offline. My one question is if it’s so terrible, and it’s against the law, why are there sites on the internet as im typing this that make illegal downloading so easy?

Other people can see your posts. You dont want to give out to much information about yourself because there are other people on the internet that are really creapy and will try to locate and find you, so you must be careful and be sure to probvide safe information that will not reveal yourself.

i agree that it is a problem that they request information from you, but i think the bigger issue after that is that ANYONE can join a website like facebook, and anyone can find out about you, impersonate you, or your friend, children right now are in more danger from online preditors than ever before, and yet here we are everytime they press LOG IN

To teachers of Ste of Vermont
leave your bluetooth off so people cant find you. you might not know it is on, but ussally if you go to settings and check the bluetooth, you can see if it is on or off.

It think personal information is very important to keep to urself because other people can look u up and fing where u live and could do terrible things to u. Some people out there are very, very, very creepy. They could find out everything about u and could write stuff about u on the internet that everyone can see and more people could be creepy people and then u would be in T-R-O-U-B-L-E-!

People should never give out personal information cuz if they do it can leed to lots of trouble. If you give out your name to anyone they can look you up on google and they can find out where you live. If you are going to give out your age you should always give out your real name so that person would no if you are to young or old you are if they want to date you if it matters to them. You should never give out your address or phone number cuz they can stalk you or other things so you should never give out any personal things cuz it can cause lots of damge and trouble.

There are some things that are on there twice. Also you dont wont to give out when you will be home alone because people could go and take that. Then they could go to your house and do bad things like kidnap you. that is another thing you could put on this.

It is very importent to not give away your cell phone number to any strangers. If someone ask’s for your phone number and you dont know them then dont give it to them. This is very importent because they would be able to find you on the internet and find out where you live and stalk you or somthing like that. Its the samething with giving any phone number out they can look it up and find it and track you down. Thats why it is importent to not give your phone number out to people you dont know. So never give your number to strangers.

I agree that being ready to pause the video at any given moment is essential, because anything could slip that you didn’t catch on the first time you watched it. Sometimes, when teachers need to resort to YouTube they should skim for inappropriate comments, because they pop up all over the place. Even the most innocent videos could contain nasty posts.
